Thunderstorms are in store for the Midwest in the morning and will move eastward throughout the day, causing problems for the Northeast by the evening. The Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, and the central Plains take on extreme heat in the 90s and upper 100s. Most of the country will experience temperatures in the 80s and 90s, including the Great Lakes, the Midwest, the Tennessee Valley, the Southeast and Deep South, the northern and southern Plains, and the Rockies. The Northeast will enjoy some cooler temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The Southwest, the central and northern Rockies, the West and the Pacific Northwest will see exceptionally dry conditions with overwhelming heat. Warm weather is expected from the Great Lakes, slicing down into the Southern Plains, also encompassing the Deep South and regions northward. In contrast, dry weather is expected for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, and also across the northern and central Plains, and over most of the western U.S. Scattered storms will also develop late afternoon and evening from west Texas across New Mexico and Arizona, some of which could contain gusty winds and heavy rain.
More scattered thunderstorms are likely across the Southeast as the day progresses. Another area of storms is likely across Southeast Texas and southern Louisiana later today, with a few areas of heavy rain here also. During the day, a cluster of storms will develop over the central Mississippi Valley and Midwest, with pockets of heavy rain possible in western Kentucky and western Tennessee.
